Coffee has first been planted in Papua New Guinea in the late 19th century, bit it was not until the 1920s, that it became a commercial product, Two mountain ranges runs through the country: the Bismarck Range and the Owen Stanley Range. Coffee is exclusively produced in the Bismarck Range, home of ancient volcanoes like Mount Hagen and Mount Giluwe.

Centrally located in the western part of the Bismarck Range, Western Highlands and shares Common borders with Jiwaka, Enga, Southern highlands, Simbu and Madang provinces. It is the highest producing coffee region in the country. In the past, land selection for coffee production was not based on scientific principles, rather coffee gardens and estates were developed on what land became available. The volcanic soil in this area is very fertile, making it one of the biggest coffee cherry supply of Papua New Guinea.

Smallholders dominate the industry and account for 95% of the coffee production of the country. They deliver the red cherries to four washing stations, which then sort and process them before delivering them to Lahamenegu dry mills in Goroka -  where the weather is drier and therefore more adequate to the dry parchments.

Plantation PB is a peaberry-coffee from the highest quality: The washing stations selected the ripest cherries and processed them separately to enhance their intrinsic characteristic. While most coffee cherries produce two coffee seeds, which face each other and develop one flat side, peaberries germinate alone inside a coffee cherry and thus, as the name indicates, have a round shape and rather look like a pea. Peaberries account for only around 5 per cent of a crop.

With this coffee you will experience a wonderful medley of ripe tropical fruits a sugarcane sweetness and a very balanced cup.
