This coffee is truly a secret treasure we have sourced from Nicaragua and so pleased to be able to offer it to our customers, it’s from a Cup of Excellence Farm

The Finca Los Altiplanos is a hidden place amidst the mountains of the Datanlí El Diablo Natural Park, bordered by the Jigüina River in the Jinotega region of northern Nicaragua. Los Altipla- nos is a mysterious and hidden place amidst the mountains of the Datanli el Diablo Natural Park in the Jinotega region, Nicaragua.

For 14 years the Finca is managed and operated by Ricardo Cua- dara. Ricardo's family and has been involved in coffee growing for more than 100 years. Until today, tradition and destiny have kept him in this beautiful profession. Although he runs the family business, in 2006 he had the opportunity to acquire his own finca, which he named "Los Altiplanos de Datanli". From his first visit to the finca, he was impressed by the climate, the landscape and the in- comparable ecology that the land offered. He knew that he would grow only special coffee varieties on this land, because the coffee produced there should convey the same feeling in the aromas that came over him the moment he first discovered this place.

On the finca, 20 - 30 % of the coffee is grown in the shade, and every year 3500 to 1800 coffee plants are renewed, depending on the variety. The farm has excellent environmental management. It has 30 hectares of jungle and a rich diversity of flora and fauna. Three varieties of guaba and banana thrive on the cultivated land, providing shade and serving as habitat and food for the fauna, as well as increasing organic matter and fixing nitrogen in the soil. Guaba produces renewable energy in the form of firewood for cooking
